NUMI MEANS…
We named our company Numi after the Middle Eastern dried lime teasan that we drank as children in Iraq. Traditionally harvested and dried in the hot desert sun, this rare dried lime is steeped in hot water and has been enjoyed as a tea for centuries (Numi in Arabic means citrus). Numi has a distinct, tart citrus flavor and is an oasis of health.

While the tea inspired both the creation and naming of our company, we have come across several iterations and meanings from around the world for these resonant two syllables.
In Shaman lore, Num is the chief celestial spirit; Num has also been referred to as an ecstatic state.
Numen or Numinous comes from the Latin denoting the power or presence of divinity; the supernatural; transcendence; in communion with a wholly other; and the tendency to attract, fascinate and compel. Plato referred to the numinous as an archetypal world that manifested into the phenomenal world of form.
Numi in Latin also refers to a collector of coins.
In Hindi, Numi means taste or fragrance.
We have heard that in South America, Numi refers to a friend of plants.
Numi in Chinese means sticky rice.
Fans who love Numi Tea have also named their loved ones after our company. We know of a baby Dutch boy named Numi and a couple of puppies named Numi.
If you speak any of the above languages, please excuse any misinterpretations or oversights. If you know of any other meanings, please let us know.
